    Principal's Message

    Dear Parents & Carers,
    IMG_5836.JPG

    Holy Week Prayer

As we enter Holy Week this weekend,
we take time to pause and reflect on the great love Jesus showed us through His life, death, and resurrection.
Lord, help us to walk with You
in times of silence, in acts of kindness, and in moments of prayer.

May we remember the sacrifice made for us,
and find hope in the promise of new life.
Let our hearts be open to Your presence
as we prepare to celebrate the joy of Easter.

    Amen.

    Holy Week

We encourage all families to take time during the Easter break to attend Mass and reflect on the meaning of Holy Week.
It is a sacred time in our Church calendar—a chance to grow in faith, come together as a community, and celebrate the hope and joy of the resurrection.

Wishing all our families a peaceful and blessed Easter.

    What a Term!

As we come to the end of what has been a wonderfully busy and productive term, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to all members of our school community.

To our parents and carers, thank you for your ongoing support, involvement, and encouragement—it makes such a difference in the life of our school. From attending events to helping your children be ready for each day, your partnership is deeply appreciated.

To our teachers and staff, thank you for consistently going above and beyond. Your dedication, energy, and commitment to our students have made this term such a success, and your hard work certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed.

To our amazing students, well done on a term filled with learning, growth, and fun. You’ve supported one another, embraced new challenges, and represented St Joseph’s with pride and kindness.

This term has been packed with highlights, including:

    • Our Open Classroom and Welcome BBQ, which were wonderful opportunities to build community

    • The Swimming Carnival, Cross Country, and Athletics Carnival, where students showed fantastic sportsmanship and school spirit

    • NAPLAN for our Year 3 and 5 students—congratulations on giving it your best effort

    • Liturgical celebrations including Ash Wednesday Mass and the Feast of St Joseph Mass, where we came together in faith and reflection

    • Two class assemblies that showcased student learning and talents

    • The celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation

    • Participation in CECG Summer and Winter Sport Trials, with many students representing our school with enthusiasm and pride

Thank you all once again for helping to make this term such a memorable one. We look forward to another exciting term ahead!

Athletics Carnival 2025- A Winning Day All Round!....

What a fantastic day we had at our Athletics Carnival on Friday!

It was a joy to see our students proudly representing their houses with enthusiasm, determination, and incredible school spirit. The day was filled with great energy, and it was clear that all the preparation and hard work had paid off—from the precision of the marching to the outstanding efforts on the track and field.

A huge congratulations to Madonna House, who took out the win in the marching competition with their unity, pride, and impressive coordination! The marching display was a true highlight of the day, showcasing the students’ teamwork and dedication.

We’d also like to give a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful parent helpers—your support, time, and energy made the day possible. Your involvement was absolutely essential and truly appreciated.

Thank you once again to our amazing staff, especially Mrs McNamara, whose behind-the-scenes efforts helped ensure the day ran smoothly. A big thank you also to Vaughn for coordinating the High Jump Finals and joining us for the day.

Most importantly, thank you to our students for their outstanding participation and positive attitudes. You made the day one to remember!

Join us tomorrow morning as we journey through the 'St Joseph's Stations of the Cross', a reflective and prayerful experience honouring the final steps of Jesus. Thankyou to Stage 3 students and staff for your preparation with this

    A FEW FURTHER REMINDERS

    2026 SIBLING KINDER ENROLMENTS

If you have a child that will be enrolling into Kindergarten for 2026, please complete the online enrolment form. We have already had a large number of enrolment forms completed so please do so as soon as possible.

    Morning Drop-Off Reminder

We kindly ask parents and carers to support us by making morning drop-offs as quick and smooth as possible. With the growing number of students and families arriving each day, a quick goodbye at the gate helps ease congestion, supports a calm and safe environment, and allows teachers to focus on supervising and supporting students as they transition into the school day.

Extended farewells can make it more challenging for staff to manage student behaviours and can sometimes increase anxiety for children during this key transition time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping our mornings run safely and smoothly for everyone.

    SCHOOL FEES

A gentle reminder that when you enrolled your child at our school you signed an agreement stating that you agree to pay all school fees, levies and surcharges while your child is enrolled.  Please contact the school if are having financial difficulties OR NEED TO SET UP A PAYMENT PLAN. If repeated requests to make arrangements for paying fees are ignored, this could result in using outside agencies to collect the fees (adding extra costs). I urge you to take this matter of school fees seriously.

PARENT WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK FOR VOLUNTEERS

Please provide the school with your volunteer working with Children Check number if you would like to assist in the canteen or school-based events.

    COMPASS ABSENCES

Any unexplained absence reminders will be emailed to families on a fortnightly basis. Please ensure you complete the Compass absentee form for any whole day absences in a timely manner. It is a legal requirement that any absence from school has a satisfactory explanation. Please only submit whole day absences via Compass (i.e. do not change the time in the absentee form). If you are dropping off late or picking up early you do not need to complete the absentee as you are required to sign your child in/out using the terminal in the front office.

MOBILE PHONE, ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND PERSONAL TOYS

Please remind your child to not bring toys, personal and valuable items to school.

Any mobile phones or personal electronic devices need to be handed in to the office before school starts and collected at home time.

    Privilege Students

Congratulations to our Week 11 Privilege Students

    Stations of the Cross

Join Stage 3 tomorrow, 10th April for Stations of the Cross, beginning at 9:45am in the hall. This is a traditional event, that is quite moving and symbolic to what lead up to the Crucifixion.

Families are more than welcome to walk with their child's class. We just ask as you wait in the hall or are processing around the Stations, please keep a respectful, dignified silence, and try not to gain the attention of the students who are forming the Statues.

Outstanding Effort at the MacKillop Swimming Carnival!

Congratulations to our amazing swimmers who proudly represented the Archdiocese at the MacKillop Swimming Carnival last week! Each student gave it their all and showed wonderful sportsmanship and school spirit throughout the day.

A special shout-out to Sophie Quade, who has now been selected for the MacKillop Swimming Team and will compete this Thursday at the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships—a fantastic achievement and a testament to her hard work and dedication.

Our relay team also had a fantastic result, finishing first in their heat and placing 7th overall—an incredible effort on such a competitive stage.

Well done to all our representatives:
Grace Martin, Lucy Grant, Piper Webber, John Edwards, Stella Bowden, Belinda Jiang, Sophie Quade, and Chayse Toole.

You’ve made our school community so proud—Go Joeys Swimmers!

More Sporting Success for St Joseph’s!

We were thrilled to receive even more outstanding sporting news over the past two weeks!

Firstly, congratulations to Will Holgate, Lylah Lang, and Abigail Crosbie, who have been selected to represent the Archdiocesan Soccer Team. This is a fantastic achievement, and we are incredibly proud of this achievement.

And in case you missed it,  more great news from last Friday, Gracie Croker, Chelsea Cartwright, Chayse Toole, and Mitchell Bensley were selected to represent the NSW MacKillop Hockey Team! Representing at this level is an exceptional accomplishment and something to be very proud of.

Well done to all these students for their hard work, determination, and for representing our school with pride. We can’t wait to see what you achieve next—Go Joeys!

    Community Council

    Mother's Day is sneaking up:

Mother’s Day preparation for early next term!

A reminder as a part of the St Joseph’s Mothers’ Day celebrations, the Community Council will be running a stall for Mother’s Day on Friday, 9th May. (On Wednesday 7th May for Year 6 students due to camp).

Children will be given the opportunity to buy item/s from the stall on this day with tables having gifts valued at $2 and $5.
For this to happen we ask that families donate a small gift/s to be sold at the stall.

Donations can be left at the office up until Wednesday 7th May.
If you are able to volunteer some of your time on the day to help with the Mother’s Day Stall, please let Danie or Paula in the office know, or alternatively email Paula at
    paula.quinlan@cg.catholic.edu.au

If you would like to help with our Mother’s Day Stall, please come to the school hall on Thursday 8th May at 3:15 pm to help set up the stall / tables. Or 9:00 am on Friday to help our little treasures select the perfect gift for their mum. When donating your gift, please give something that you would be happy to receive.

    Some ideas might include:
    • small photo frames
    • coaster sets or placemats
    • jewellery – a nice bangle, earrings
    • nice soap / washer / bath salts
    • gardening gloves and packet of seeds
    • jar or container filled with lollies
    • pretty notebook & pen
    • candles
    • scarves
    • kitchen items
    • movie voucher
The children will be so excited to choose and buy something special for their mum.

    We would love your feedback!!!

We’re reaching out to our amazing community for fresh, creative ideas to help raise funds for our wonderful school! Whether it’s a fun event, or a new twist on a classic fundraiser, we want to hear from YOU!

We’re also currently brainstorming ideas on improvements we can make within our school. These include putting a roof over the car line waiting area , painted artworks to improve connection with sporting houses, and new school gazebos to name a few.

We know that the best ideas often come from the people who care the most about our school and we would love to hear from YOU.

    Here’s how you can help:

    • Share your ideas: Email the office or me directly at tahu_fred@bigpond.com with your suggestions.
    • Volunteer to help: If you have skills or connections that could help make an event happen, we’d be thrilled to have you on board.
    • Join us at upcoming events: Stay tuned for more details on the exciting events we’ll be hosting soon!

    Canteen News

Volunteers most welcome, please email the canteen canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au

Our school canteen is open on Thursday and Friday.

Orders need to be placed by Qkr! before 8:30am on the day of order.

Whilst we understand accidents happen it does place a large strain on our canteen and office staff to assist in these situations.

To try to avoid this, please follow some of the steps below:

    • How to order – place your order using the Qkr! app or write on a paper bag and send the order in with your child.
    • Order on the app and confirm the date that you have selected is for the day you require.
    • If your child is selecting the food please check it before you confirm the order (we now need to limit garlic bread to students as some were ordering up to 10 in one order)
    • If your child is absent and no longer is required to receive the order please cancel prior to 8:30am on the day of order.
You can receive a Qkr credit note if you tap on the 3 lines at the top left of the home screen, select ‘my receipts’ and then select the order you wish to cancel.
    • If your child doesn’t have a lunch and they realise before 10:00am a phone call will be made to parents to ask them to bring lunch to school for them.
If you are unable we will provide your child with a basic sandwich (vegemite or cheese) and an IOU envelope will be sent home.
    • IOU’s - if your child brings home an IOU envelope please either return the envelope with cash payment or alternatively you can pay for it via Qkr using the “Canteen Outstanding Amounts”
    • If you are unaware of the amount currently outstanding to your child please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au and we can advise.
    • There is a limit of $10 for over the counter purchases. Please do not send your child in with more than this as we will not accept $50 or $20 notes.

If you need to contact the school about lunch orders, please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office 4821 3510 before 9:30 am.

If you are able to volunteer in the canteen please contact the office or email the canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au with your availability.

IT WAS GREAT TO 'DROP IN' AND WITNESS MARK WORKING WITH YEAR 5 CLASSES ON COMMUNICATION.

How to talk so kids will listen & listen so kids will talk

Parenting is relentless, and with so many resources and voices, it's hard to know what to try or who or what to listen to.

This is a book that was recommended to me 6 years ago and it has stood the test of time being first published in 1980.  I have been listening to recently as an audio book. It seems to understand with empathy the everyday challenges and has a range of timeless, practical approaches.

Here is a link to the book if you want to read / listen to it.

    Cybersafety

Young people today are growing up in an increasingly connected world where technology is part of their everyday lives –– for learning, socialising, and entertainment. While the digital world offers enormous benefits, it also comes with serious risks. From cyberbullying and online predators to inappropriate content and screen time concerns, navigating the online environment can be challenging for young people and their families.

Cybersafety is not just about blocking access –– it's about empowering young people with the knowledge and skills they need to use technology responsibly and safely. This includes understanding privacy settings, recognising scams, and developing healthy digital habits. At the same time, it's important for parents and caregivers to stay informed, have open and judgement-free conversations with their children, and lead by example through positive online behaviour.

In today's digital age, safeguarding a child's wellbeing must also include protecting their online life. This edition of SchoolTV will help you better understand the digital landscape your child is navigating and offer practical strategies to help them stay safe, confident and in control online.
