2025 Term 2 Week 6
Prayer for Our First Holy Communion Students
As our students prepare to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, we keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this special time in their faith journey.
We invite our school community to pray with us:
First Holy Communion Prayer
Dear Jesus,
I am preparing to receive You for the very first time.
Thank You for the gift of the Eucharist,
where You come to me in a special way.
Help me to be ready in my heart,
to love You more each day,
and to follow You in all that I do.
Fill me with Your peace,
Your joy,
and Your love.
Amen.
Celebrating Student Achievement in Art and Leadership
At our most recent whole-school assembly, we were excited to present some special awards and showcase student talent and achievement.
Firstly, we congratulated two outstanding young artists, Sophie Quade and Jamie Collett, who worked closely with Mrs Latham to create brilliant pieces for the Vision Australia Calendar Competition. Their artworks were proudly shared with the school community, and it was a wonderful opportunity for their families to celebrate this achievement alongside us. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Latham for her support and guidance in this project.
We also celebrated Sophie Quade for receiving her Leadership Badge—a well-deserved recognition of her positive example and contributions to school life.
Finally, congratulations to Rupert Whalan, Harley Sasse, and Penelope Hennessy for receiving Principal Awards for their ongoing effort, growth, and commitment to living out our school values and to students who received Co-ordinator awards and ribbons for school athletics carnival.
Well done to all!
'CSA's Engage in Professional Learning'
Yesterday, our Classroom Support Assistants (CSAs) participated in a valuable professional learning day facilitated by Catholic Education – Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn staff. The training, held at St Joseph's Goulburn, brought together support staff from several Catholic Schools across the region.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our dedicated CSAs to enhance their skills and deepen their understanding of how best to support teachers and students in the classroom. Content delivered included information on; Catalyst and our System Bold Goals , Science of Learning, Science of Reading, Cognitive Load Theory and using High Impact Teaching Practices for Effective Intervention.
We take this opportunity to thank our CSAs for their continued commitment to making a positive impact in our learning environment.

Another Wonderful Performance
Did you know that the voice of Maynard on Bluey was performed by none other than Sean Choolburra—the very same Sean who visited our school this week?
Sean was a captivating performer who both engaged and educated our students through traditional dance, storytelling, and a fascinating display of cultural artefacts. His high-energy presentation, rich with humour and warmth, brought Aboriginal culture to life in a way that was meaningful and memorable.
All of our students were fully immersed in the performance and walked away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal traditions.
Year 2 Exploring Change Over Time in History
It was a wonderful opportunity to visit the Year Two classroom and discover what students have been learning in History. I was excited to hear them share how everyday technologies—such as televisions, fridges, tractors, and microwaves—have evolved over time.
Students impressed me with their knowledge of how these items have changed and improved over the decades. A definite highlight was hearing their creative predictions about future inventions—solar-powered devices featured heavily in their forward-thinking ideas!
It’s inspiring to see such curiosity and critical thinking as our students explore how the past continues to shape the present and future.

Floating Ideas in Year One Science
It was great to watch our Year One students in action as they designed and built boats during their Science lesson. The creativity and enthusiasm on display were impressive!
Even more exciting was hearing students share their ideas about how to keep their boats afloat. From using light materials to balancing weight, their thinking showed great problem-solving and teamwork.
Well done to our budding scientists and engineers—your boats and ideas were fantastic!

Canteen News
Volunteers most welcome, please email the canteen canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au
Our school canteen is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Orders need to be placed by Qkr! before 8:30am on the day of order.
Whilst we understand accidents happen it does place a large strain on our canteen and office staff to assist in these situations.
To try to avoid this, please follow some of the steps below:
- How to order – place your order using the Qkr! app or write on a paper bag and send the order in with your child.
- Order on the app and confirm the date that you have selected is for the day you require.
- If your child is selecting the food please check it before you confirm the order (we now need to limit garlic bread to students as some were ordering up to 10 in one order)
- If your child is absent and no longer is required to receive the order please cancel prior to 8:30am on the day of order.
You can receive a Qkr credit note if you tap on the 3 lines at the top left of the home screen, select ‘my receipts’ and then select the order you wish to cancel. - If your child doesn’t have a lunch and they realise before 10:00am a phone call will be made to parents to ask them to bring lunch to school for them.
If you are unable we will provide your child with a basic sandwich (vegemite or cheese) and an IOU envelope will be sent home. - IOU’s - if your child brings home an IOU envelope please either return the envelope with cash payment or alternatively you can pay for it via Qkr using the “Canteen Outstanding Amounts”
- If you are unaware of the amount currently outstanding to your child please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au and we can advise.
- There is a limit of $10 for over the counter purchases. Please do not send your child in with more than this as we will not accept $50 or $20 notes.
If you need to contact the school about lunch orders, please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office 4821 3510 before 9:30 am.
If you are able to volunteer in the canteen please contact the office or email the canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au with your availability.

Finding balance in an online world
According to a survey of 3,520 parents of children aged 2–17, during July/August 2018.
For more info https://www.esafety.gov.au/research/digital-parenting/screen-time
52% of parents think that their children spend too much time online.
What do you think? Do you find that you are waring/competing with devices at home? You are not alone. How do you find balance?
Here are some examples of 3 different family tech agreements that may help guide discussions in your family on this topic.
